Integrating Behavioral Theories in Agent-Based Models for Agricultural Drought Risk Assessments

چکیده

Improving assessments of droughts risk for smallholder farmers requires a better understanding the interaction between individual adaptation decisions and drought risk. Agent-based modeling is increasingly used to capture decision-making environment. In this paper, we provide review agent-based models with focus on behavioral rules. This leads conclusion that human decision rules in existing are often based ad hoc assumptions without solid theoretical empirical foundation. Subsequently, economic psychological theories clear overview can improve foundation farmer behavior parameterization, calibration, validation methods those theories. Based these reviews, conceptual framework give guidance integration models. We conclude an agenda guide future research field.

Agent Heterogeneity in Adoption of Anaerobic Digestion Technology: Integrating Economic, Diffusion, and Behavioral Innovation Theories

Anaerobic digestion technology addresses environmental issues of waste disposal and greenhouse gas emission reduction. This paper examines attitudes toward adoption of this conservation technology on dairy farms. To specify an appropriate dependent variable without a large number of adopters, an ordered probit model is constructed. The empirical analysis uses data from a 2006 survey of Pacific ...

Integrating Agent-Based Social Models And Biophysical Models

Spatially and temporally explicit simulation modelling of natural resource management systems provides a framework to draw together in a mathematically unambiguous manner a wealth of information, and, as such, allows rigorous testing of hypotheses of how such systems can be changed, without the time, expense and moral implications of altering a real system. In recent years, a large number of in...

Why well yield matters for managing agricultural drought risk

Groundwater-fed irrigation has supported growth in agricultural production around the world by allowing farmers to buffer production against the risks associated with variable and uncertain climatic conditions. However, uncontrolled exploitation has also led to rapid rates of groundwater depletion in many semi-arid and arid regions that threaten farmers' long-term capacity to adapt to future cl...

An Operational Agricultural Drought Risk Assessment Model for Nebraska, USA

Drought is a common occurrence in Nebraska and agriculture is the primary economic sector affected. Because of repeated and widespread severe drought impacts, more emphasis on drought risk management is warranted. This study develops an agricultural drought risk assessment model using multivariate techniques. The model is specific to corn and soybeans and is able to assess realtime agricultural...

An Agricultural Drought Risk-Assessment Model for Corn and Soybeans

An agricultural drought risk-assessment model was developed for Nebraska, USA, for corn and soybeans on the basis of variables derived from the standardized precipitation index and crop-specific drought index using multivariate techniques. This model can be used to assess real-time agricultural drought risk for specific crops at critical times before and during the growing season by retaining p...
